KU to honor top HS seniors from Douglas, Jefferson, Leavenworth counties Sept. 21
LAWRENCE -- Students from 17 Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, Sept. 21, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.
A total of 225 seniors from high schools in Douglas, Jefferson, and Leavenworth counties will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 7 p.m. program at the Lied Center, 1600 Stewart Drive in Lawrence.
Honorees' names are listed below.
Steve McAllister, professor of law, will speak. Kansas Alumni Association representative Jennifer Sanner, senior vice president for Communications and editor of the Kansas Alumni magazine, is in charge of award presentations.
The program is free for all attendees, and a reception will follow. Students attending will be eligible to win a gift certificate to the KU Bookstore. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.
Karen Van Blaricum, Lawrence, will serve as the site coordinator. Teresa Dillon and David D. Johnston both of Lawrence will serve as the Douglas County coordinators. Cynthia Lewis, Lecompton, will serve as the Jefferson County coordinator. Bianca Elliot, Linwood, and Tom Throne, Lansing, will serve as the Leavenworth county coordinators.
The KU Endowment Association and the Kansas Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 95,794 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes throughout the State of Kansas.
