KU to honor top HS seniors from Marion, McPherson, and Rice counties Sept. 21
LAWRENCE -- Students from 15 Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, Sept. 21, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.
A total of 68 seniors from high schools in McPherson, Marion, and Rice counties, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. dinner program at the Holiday Manor Convention Center, 2211 E. Kansas Ave., McPherson. Honorees' names are listed below.
Marlesa Roney, vice provost for student success, will speak. Kansas Alumni Association representative Jennifer Sanner, senior vice president for Communications and editor of the Kansas Alumni magazine, is in charge of award presentations.
The dinner program will cost parents and alumni $12 each. Students attending will be eligible to win a gift certificate to the KU Bookstore. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.
Mary Kornhaus, McPherson, will serve as the site coordinator. Lawrence Chaney, McPherson, will serve as the McPherson County coordinator. Jim Christensen and Martin Tice will serve as the Marion County coordinators. Both are from Marion. Roger Tobias, Lyons, will serve as the Rice County coordinator.
The KU Endowment Association and the Kansas Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 95,794 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes throughout the State of Kansas.
