KU women’s basketball team to deliver KU souvenirs to patients at Lawrence hospital

LAWRENCE — For the 14th consecutive year, the University of Kansas women’s basketball team will brighten the holidays for patients at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Team members, along with head coach Bonnie Henrickson and her staff, will visit the hospital at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, and distribute items collected during the Crimson & Blue Holiday Project.

The players will give the patients a variety of KU-licensed products, including T-shirts, playing cards, pennants and team posters. KU’s Trademark Licensing Office collects the items from officially licensed vendors who donate for this event each year. This year, the licensees donated more than 1,200 items with a retail value of more than $13,000, according to Paul Vander Tuig, KU’s Trademark Licensing director.

“The visit to LMH is always a day I look forward to,” Vander Tuig said. “It has become a great way for Kansas Athletics and the university to give something back to our community. Just to see the patients smile as they visit with the coach and players makes it all worthwhile.”

The Trademark Licensing Program collects fees and royalties from manufacturers authorized to commercially use KU’s trademarks. Royalties distributed from the program are used to fund student and student-athlete scholarships at KU.
