Audio-Reader to broadcast Rose Bowl Parade

LAWRENCE -- Blind and visually impaired listeners of The Audio-Reader Network at the University of Kansas can once again enjoy the Rose Bowl Parade without turning on their televisions.
Watching the New Year’s parade on television is a New Year's Day tradition for many families. Blind and visually impaired listeners of the Kansas Audio-Reader Network can enjoy that same experience, thanks to a special broadcast of the Rose Bowl Parade. The broadcast is provided to Audio-Reader by the Los Angeles Radio Reading Service in Reseda, Calif.
Audio-Reader will broadcast the descriptive version of the parade from 10 a.m.- 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1. This accessible rendition of the annual extravaganza has become a New Year's Day tradition.
Three viewing areas along the parade route are reserved for people with disabilities, including a section with audio description for the visually impaired and a section with sign interpreters for the hearing impaired. The audio description version is broadcast live nationwide to reading services such as the Kansas Audio-Reader Network.
“We are pleased that Audio-Reader has been able to offer the live audio-described version of the Rose Parade to our listeners for many years,” said Janet Campbell, Audio-Reader director. “It's a holiday tradition that our listeners really look forward to. We always get positive feedback from listeners who appreciate this special holiday broadcast.”
Offered as a public service by the University of Kansas, Audio-Reader is a reading and information service for blind and print-disabled individuals in Kansas and western Missouri. For more information about Audio-Reader, call (800) 772-8898, or visit the organization's Web site at http://reader.ku.edu. Audio-Reader's services are available free of charge.
