KU to honor 42 high school seniors from Allen, Bourbon and Woodson counties

LAWRENCE — Students from six Kansas high schools will be honored Monday, Feb. 13, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

A total of 42 seniors from high schools in Allen, Bourbon and Woodson counties will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. dinner program at Fort Scott High School, 1005 S. Main, Fort Scott.

Honorees’ names are listed below.

Diana Carlin, dean of Graduate School and International Programs, will speak. KU Alumni Association representative Heath Peterson, director of the Kansas Honors Program, and Sarah Lingeman, Kansas Honors Program coordinator, are in charge of award presentations.

The dinner program will cost parents and alumni $10 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Gary and Sally Cullor, Fort Scott, will be site coordinators, and Susy Hammons, Pittsburg, Jim and Karen Gilpin, Iola, and Sharon Suske, Yates Center, will be county coordinators.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 95,794 students in the top 10 percent of high school senior classes throughout the state of Kansas.
