KU alumni welcome new students with Aug. 3 picnic in Baldwin City

LAWRENCE — New University of Kansas students and their parents from Anderson, Franklin, Linn and Miami counties will be welcomed into the KU family at the Jayhawk Generations Welcome Picnic at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, in Baldwin City.

The KU Alumni Association and the East Kansas chapter will greet the next generation of Jayhawks at the home of John and Becky Thomas, 859 E. 1600 Road. Current KU students, alumni and university representatives will mix and mingle with students to answer questions and offer advice.

Becky Thomas, Alumni Association board member, and Heath Peterson, director of Kansas programs for the Alumni Association, are coordinating the event. Alumni Association staff will arrive with the signature KU trailer full of grills, burgers and brats for the festivities. Guests will enjoy complimentary food and beverages, and each new Jayhawk will receive a free T-shirt. The cost for area alumni is $6 per person.
