KU alumni plan June 28 picnic in Salina to welcome new students

LAWRENCE — New University of Kansas students and their parents from Cloud, Ellsworth, Jewell, Lincoln, Mitchell, Ottawa, Republic and Saline counties will be welcomed into the KU family at the Jayhawk Generations Welcome Picnic at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, in Salina.

The KU Alumni Association and the North Central chapter will greet the next generation of Jayhawks at Oakdale Park, 730 Oakdale Dr. Current KU students, alumni and university representatives will mix and mingle with students to answer questions and offer advice.

North Central chapter board members and Heath Peterson, director of Kansas programs for the Alumni Association, are coordinating the event. Association staff will arrive with the signature KU trailer full of grills, burgers and brats for the festivities. Guests will enjoy complimentary food and beverages, and each new Jayhawk will receive a free T-shirt. The cost for area alumni is $6 per person.
