KU alumni plan tri-state picnic July 12 in Pittsburg to welcome new students

LAWRENCE — New University of Kansas students and their parents from southeast Kansas, southwest Missouri and northeast Oklahoma will be welcomed into the KU family at Jayhawk Generations Welcome Picnic at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, in Pittsburg.

Guests and alumni from the following counties are invited to attend: Allen, Bourbon, Cherokee, Crawford, Labette, Montgomery, Neosho, Wilson and Woodson counties in Kansas; Barton, Bates, Cass, Cedar, Christian, Douglas, Greene, Henry, Howell, Jasper, Lawrence, McDonald, Newton, Vernon, Webster and Wright counties in Missouri; and Craig, Delaware, Mayes and Ottawa counties in Oklahoma.

The KU Alumni Association and the Tri-State chapter will greet the next generation of Jayhawks at Lincoln Park, Shelter House No. 3. Current KU students, alumni and university representatives will mix and mingle with students to answer questions and offer advice.

Henry Menghini of Pittsburg, Tri-State chapter leader, and Heath Peterson, director of Kansas programs for the Alumni Association, are coordinating the event. Association staff will arrive with the signature KU trailer full of grills, burgers and brats for the festivities. Guests will enjoy complimentary food and beverages, and each new Jayhawk will receive a free T-shirt. The cost for area alumni is $6 per person.
