KU to honor 46 high school seniors from nine northwest Kansas counties in Colby

LAWRENCE — Students from 16 Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, April 5, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and KU Endowment.

A total of 46 seniors from high schools in Cheyenne, Decatur, Gove, Logan, Rawlins, Sheridan, Sherman, Thomas and Wallace counties will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. (Central Daylight Time) dinner program in the Multipurpose Room in the Colby Community College Robert Burnett Memorial Student Union, 1255 S. Range Ave., Colby.

Honorees’ names are listed below.

Bill Crowe, librarian at the Spencer Research Library, will speak. Jennifer Alderdice, director of student programs for the Alumni Association, is in charge of award presentations.

The dinner program will cost parents and alumni $13 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and KU Endowment.

Sharon Steele of Colby will be the site coordinator as well as county coordinator for Thomas and Wallace counties. Other county coordinators are Mike and Brenda Day, St. Francis, Cheyenne County; Jeff and Nona Mason, Goodland, Sherman County; Wade Park, Oakley, Gove, Logan and Sheridan counties; Charles and Connie Peckman, Atwood, Rawlins County; and Kurt Vollertsen, Oberlin, Decatur County.

The Kansas Honors Program began in 1971. It has honored 95,794 students in the top 10 percent of high school senior classes throughout the state of Kansas.
