Multidisciplinary Research Building to be dedicated March 6

LAWRENCE — The new Multidisciplinary Research Building at the University of Kansas will be formally dedicated at 10 a.m. Monday, March 6.

Among those participating in the ceremony will be Chancellor Robert Hemenway, Regent President Donna Shank, Rep. Dennis Moore, Vice Provost for Research Jim Roberts and Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry Susan Lunte.

An open house for faculty, staff, students and the public will 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Specific labs will be open and available for visitors to see, and researchers will be on hand to respond to questions. Refreshments will be served in the first floor break area, and maps of the building will be provided.

The $40 million, 106,000-square-foot building was completed in December and is the latest addition to KU’s growing research complex on west campus. More than 200 scientists, students and other research staff will work in the building when it is fully occupied.
Research at the Multidisciplinary Research Building covers a range of subjects, including drug discovery and delivery, bioinformatics, stable isotope geology and nanoscience. Funding for the project is provided by the KU Center for Research.

The building is at 2030 Becker Drive, west of the Simons and Structural Biology Center buildings, off of 21st and Iowa streets.
