Rock Chalk Revue acts chosen for March 8-10 shows at Lied Center
LAWRENCE — Rock Chalk Revue, the variety show produced by University of Kansas students to benefit Douglas County United Way, has selected the five skits for its 58th show scheduled March 8-10 at the Lied Center. It is one of the largest student-run philanthropies in the United States.
The Rock Chalk Revue advisory board announced the winners at a ceremony Nov. 20 at Liberty Hall in Lawrence.
On Sept. 6, Rock Chalk Revue representatives presented a $30,500 check from 2006 show proceeds to United Way co-chairs Richard and Debbie Konzem at the KU-Louisiana Monroe football game at Memorial Stadium. In addition, KU students donated 11,419 volunteer hours through 2006 Rock Chalk Revue to more than 30 Douglas County United Way agencies.
The Rock Chalk Revue advisory board includes 22 students and three faculty advisers. Student leaders this year are Rob Williams, Manhattan senior, executive producer; Jamie Lamb, Lenexa senior, executive director; Rusty Staub, Wichita junior, assistant executive director; and Matt Dupy, Salina senior, business manager. Ann Eversole, assistant vice provost for Student Success, is adviser. Ruth Stoner, Student Success budget and personnel administrator, is business adviser. Rueben Perez, director of the Student Involvement and Leadership Center, is community service adviser.
KU students write and produce the annual satirical musical revue as well as fill leadership and fundraising roles and select a theme. The advisory board chose “Hawk Wild” as its show theme for 2007. Groups interested in performing in Rock Chalk Revue create scripts to interpret that theme any way they choose, then submit synopsis notebooks and perform a five-to-seven-minute show preview to a panel of judges. Judges selected five shows from 11 entries by fraternity and sorority organizations and scholarship halls.
Winning groups and their skit titles are:
“Till Dance Do Us Part” — Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and Beta Theta Pi fraternity
“Set in Stone” — Gamma Phi Beta sorority and Delta Upsilon fraternity
“Phantom of the Library” — Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and Theta Chi fraternity
“Little Prom on the Prairie” — Delta Gamma sorority and Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity
“Love Spell” — Pi Beta Phi sorority and Phi Kappa Psi fraternity
Additional information about the show and tickets is available online or by contacting the Rock Chalk Revue office at (785) 864-4033 or rcr@ku.edu.
