Snyder Book Collecting Contest winners to be announced in Nov. 10 ceremony
LAWRENCE — The winners of the 50th Snyder Book Collecting Contest at the University of Kansas will be announced at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at Oread Books in the Kansas Union.
Lorraine Haricombe, dean of libraries at KU, will host the event, which is open to the public.
The contest was open to all KU students and has undergraduate and graduate divisions. The first-place winner of each division will receive an $800 prize and a $100 gift certificate from the KU Bookstores. Second-place winners will receive a $500 prize and a $50 gift certificate.
Judges for this year’s contest all are former contest prizewinners:
Joel Boggess, Lawrence, 2003 graduate prizewinner
David Chiles, Tonganoxie, 1985 undergraduate prizewinner
Michael Foubert, Olathe, 1996, 1999 and 2000 graduate prizewinner
Susan Pentlin, Warrensburg, Mo., 1975 graduate prizewinner
Diana Weaver, Lawrence, 2004 undergraduate prizewinner
The winning collections will be on display at Oread Books until Nov. 27.
The late Elizabeth M. Snyder of Kansas City, Mo., was the contest benefactor through a fund administered by KU Endowment. University Libraries and Oread Books organize and co-sponsor the contest. For more information about the contest and its history, visit the University Libraries' Web site.
