ROTC units plan to observe Veterans Day in three KU campus events
LAWRENCE — Reserve Officer Training Corps units for the Air Force, Army and Navy/Marines will participate in Veterans Day observances at the University of Kansas. All observances are open to the public.
All three units will participate in “A Tribute to Veterans” at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at the Dole Institute of Politics and in a retreat at 4 p.m. Friday at the Strong Hall flagpole. Retired Navy Capt. J.W. “Buck” Newsom will speak at the Dole Institute, and a reception will follow. Following the Strong Hall retreat, retired Marine Lt. Col. Dorothy Kendrick will speak at Room 130 Budig Hall. The Air Force Arnold Air Society is the retreat host.
At 7 p.m. Friday, all ROTC cadets will conduct a 24-hour vigil at the Vietnam and Korean memorials on Memorial Drive through 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11. A lamp lighting ceremony will precede the vigil. The cadets and midshipmen plan to participate in one-hour shifts with two students on duty at each memorial.
