LAWRENCE — Mark Zupan, a paraplegic Rugby player and star of the award-winning documentary “Murderball,” will speak at the University of Kansas about how his life changed suddenly after an accident in 1993.

The event, sponsored by KU’s Student Union Activities, AbleHawks and the Academic Achievement and Access Center, will start at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, in the Ballroom at the Kansas Union.

Audience members can watch the documentary before or after the lecture, with screenings at 6 and 9 p.m. A book signing will follow the lecture, hosted by Oread Books.

The lecture and the movie are free with a KU ID and $3 for the public. Tickets can be purchased at the SUA Box Office, Level 4 in the Kansas Union, and at the door until seats are no longer available. The event is part of Disability Awareness Month.

“Murderball” was the winner of the Documentary Audience Award at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for an Academy Award that same year. The documentary follows the American quad rugby Olympic team through the Paralympic Games in Athens, Greece.
