Four KU seniors selected to lead 2006-07 Board of Class Officers
LAWRENCE — Four University of Kansas students have been selected as senior class officers and chosen to lead the Board of Class Officers for 2006-07.
Activities of the Board of Class Officers promote student life, and its awards recognize excellence among students, faculty and staff within the KU community.
Among the Board of Class Officers award recognitions are:
— The H.O.P.E. Award (Honor for an Outstanding Progressive Educator) recognizes outstanding teaching and concern for students. Established by the Class of 1959, it is the only honor for teaching excellence given exclusively by seniors on the Lawrence campus. Winners are selected through a ballot-and-interview process and recognized at a fall football game.
— The C.L.A.S.S. Award (Citation for Leadership and Achievement in Student Services) is presented at a men’s basketball game to an unclassified staff member who works in a department or organization overseen by the Office of the Vice Provost for Student Success. Established by the Class of 1987, it recognizes distinguished achievements in student services that show a commitment to the needs of KU students and contribute to the welfare of students.
— The Campanile Award is given annually in May to a graduating senior for leadership, character and respect for KU. The Class of 2000 established this award.
— The Ex.C.E.L. Awards (Excellence in Community Education and Leadership) are $500 student-funded recognitions given jointly by the class officers, Student Union Activities and the homecoming steering committee. The awards are giving to two seniors at the KU homecoming football game in the fall.
The Board of Class Officers also create the class banners carried during the spring commencement processional and select the senior class gift to the university.
