American pharmaceutical science group to honor two KU doctoral students
LAWRENCE — Two University of Kansas doctoral students will receive awards for their research in pharmaceutical chemistry at the annual American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists meeting and exposition.
Eric Wayne Crick of Greenville, Ky., and Arvind Kumar Chappa of Lawrence are among about 38 graduate students who were selected from around the world to present their research at the symposia. Their prizes will be presented at the conclusion of each symposium presentation.
The meeting will be Oct. 29 to Nov. 2 in San Antonio, Texas.
Crick will receive an award based on his research in analysis and pharmaceutical quality in KU’s Department of Chemistry. Crick earned his bachelor’s degree from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. He is the son of Billy and Leesa Crick of Greenville, Ky.
Chappa will receive an award based on his research in drug design and discovery in KU’s Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. Chappa also earned a master’s in pharmaceutical chemistry from KU in spring 2005. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Andhra University in Visakhapatnam, India, and has a master’s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Graduate students from across the globe submitted their research findings in 11 pharmaceutical research categories. After being competitively judged, the students whose work was deemed outstanding earned an opportunity to present their research findings at the San Antonio meeting.
The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists is a professional scientific society of 13,000 members employed in academia, industry, government and other research institutes worldwide. Founded in 1986, the association provides a dynamic international forum for the exchange of knowledge among scientists to enhance their contributions to health.
