Entrepreneurship conference at KU highlights new research
LAWRENCE — The Center for Research in Entrepreneurial Activity at the University of Kansas is hosting a conference that will highlight the most recent academic advances in the areas of entrepreneurship and innovation.
The conference will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at the Adams Alumni Center. The conference is titled “Entrepreneurship and Innovation — Recent Advances.” The public is invited.
George Bittlingmayer, co-director of the center and distinguished professor at the KU School of Business, said that in the past, the subject of entrepreneurship was a backwater of academic research, receiving little attention. That has changed recently, and now researchers are rigorously devoting time and attention to the study of entrepreneurship, creating a wealth of groundbreaking research.
“The purpose of the conference is to stimulate research on entrepreneurship at KU and bring awareness to interesting issues and scholarship regarding entrepreneurial issues,” Bittlingmayer said. “Much of the research being presented at this conference will pinpoint how institutional arrangements affect the climate for entrepreneurship — an important issue for the university and the state of Kansas.”
The speakers for the conference are Scott Stern, Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University; Donna Ginther, KU Department of Economics; and Vladimir Ivanov, KU School of Business.
The conference is supported through the Kauffman Foundation. To learn more, visit the conference Web site.
