KU architecture student to be ambassador for German exchange program
LAWRENCE — Hannah M. Franko, an architecture student at the University of Kansas, has received a Deutscher Akademischer Dienst award to be a Young Ambassador for the 2006-07 academic year.
A graduate student in KU’s professional master’s of architecture program, Franko is the daughter of Michael and Mary Franko of Gilbert, Pa., and a graduate of Faith Christian School in Roseto, Pa.
She is one of 20 students who studied or interned in Germany in the 2005 academic year selected to serve as liaisons in the United States and Canada. In her role as a Young Ambassador, Franko will be the primary contact for KU and other colleges and universities in northeast Kansas. In August, Franko attended a a two-day seminar in New York City where the Young Ambassadors addressed intercultural communications, presentation skills and marketing.
Young Ambassadors promote study abroad initiatives at their respective universities and colleges. They also help inspire fellow students to study in Germany by working in university study abroad offices, volunteering at study abroad fairs, answering questions from students and organizing events on campus.
The German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Dienst) is the German national agency for the support of international academic cooperation.
