LAWRENCE — The Dole Institute of Politics is bringing former Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright to the University of Kansas.
The program, “An Evening with Madeleine Albright,” will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at the Lied Center on KU’s west campus. Immediately following the event, Albright will sign copies of her newest book, Mighty and the Almighty: Reflections on America, God, and World Affairs, in the Lied Center lobby.
“We are honored that Secretary Albright has agreed to share her expertise regarding many of the most important issues that face our country,” said Bill Lacy, institute director. “She has unique international experience, and therefore a valuable perspective on world events that affect Americans every day. She is also a role model for the students at KU who will be America’s future leaders.”
Albright was the nation’s first female Secretary of State and at the time was the highest ranking woman in the history of the U.S. government. She was a member of the President’s Cabinet and National Security Council for eight years, having previously served as the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 1993 to 1997.
She is currently a professor in the practice of diplomacy at the Georgetown School of Foreign Service, chairwoman of the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs and a principal in The Albright Group LLC, a global strategy firm.
Tickets are free and can be picked up beginning Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the Lied Center box office, at Murphy Hall or at Student Union Activities in the Kansas Union. Tickets can also be ordered by phone, (785) 864-2787. There is a $5 charge for phone orders. Doors will open at 7 p.m.
