Rock Chalk Responsible Choices to host kick-off event today

LAWRENCE — A program at the University of Kansas that encourages responsible decision making by students will host its kick off tonight.

Rock Chalk Responsible Choices aims to create a team environment where students hold their friends and peers accountable, challenging their reckless decisions and produce a positive spirit of peer influence. The program works in collaboration with numerous departments at KU.

The kick off will begin at 7 p.m. today in 130 Budig Hall. The event will include presentations by Student Success staff members and KU students and a special keynote presentation by Kansas women’s basketball coach Bonnie Henrickson.

Free prizes will be given away at the event, including an exclusive VIP experience at Late Night in the Phog on Oct. 13. The largest group in attendance wins an alcohol-free tailgate party before the KU-South Florida football game Sept. 23.

The goals of the program include increasing awareness of consequences and impact of irresponsible choices with the KU and Lawrence communities, increasing understanding of state laws and statutes concerning alcohol-related decisions and developing a clear understanding of KU policies and procedures.
