Theta Chi fraternity cites KU students, alumni with top national recognitions
LAWRENCE — The Delta Psi chapter of Theta Chi social fraternity at the University of Kansas received six awards of excellence at the fraternity’s 150th anniversary celebration and annual national convention this summer at Norwich University, Northfield, Vt.
Brandon Dunklau, Olathe senior and chapter president, and Tyler Stock, Summerfield senior, represented the KU chapter at the convention. KU Theta Chis received chapter excellence awards in new member education and programming, chapter finances, chapter operations, community service, Internet technology and ritual.
Dunklau, who is majoring in social welfare, is the son of Doug and Janet Dunklau and a graduate of Olathe East High School. Stock, a theatre and film major, is the son of Joseph Newell Stock and a graduate of Marysville High School.
Others at the event who are KU chapter alumni included M. Lindsay Olson, Leawood; Dana Richardson, West Des Moines, Iowa; and Ryan Gerstner, Kansas City, Mo.
Olson and Danny Kaiser, assistant director of Parking and Transit at KU, were named two of the 150 most influential Theta Chi members in the fraternity’s history. Both are former members of the fraternity’s Grand Chapter governing council.
Kaiser, who was a student member at Iowa State University, has been coordinator for greek programs at KU, director of the Center for Campus Life, assistant vice provost for Student Success and chair of the University Events Committee.
Olson, who received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from KU in spring 1983, is president of Mortgage Investment Trust Corp., Prairie Village, and past chairman of the board of Kansas Technology Enterprise Corp. During the convention, he was elected president of the fraternity’s national housing foundation.
Richardson, a fraternity Grand Chapter member, received a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1983. Gerstner, former president of the KU student chapter and its alumni advisory board, received a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2001.
Theta Chi was founded in 1856 at Norwich University. More than 700 undergraduates and alumni attended the anniversary convention, the largest gathering in the fraternity’s history. The fraternity has 131 active student chapters at colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. The Delta Psi chapter, established in 1954 at KU, is housed at 1003 Emery Road in Lawrence.
