KU Collage Concert showcases performing, visual arts
LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas School of Fine Arts will hold its seventh annual Collage Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at the Lied Center of Kansas. A reception will follow at 9 p.m.
The Collage Concert brings together the four units of the School of Fine Arts — the departments of art, design and music and dance, and the Lied Center. The concert highlights works by visual and performing arts students and faculty in a 90-minute, fast-paced format.
Featured performances are:
— “The Wrangler” by Carter Penn, performed by the KU Wind Ensemble
— “Do You Fear the Wind?” by Leland B. Sateren, performed by the Men’s Glee Club
— “Armando’s Rhumba” by Chick Corea, performed by Jazz Combo I
— “Play,” a multi-media performance from the Department of Art
— “Toccata” by James Barnes, performed by the KU Trumpet Ensemble
— Patrick Suzeau’s “Celestial Players,” performed by undergraduate dance student Meggi Sweeney
— Flute Concerto IV. Finale by Gordon Jacob with undergraduate flute soloist Laura Marsh
— “Exultate Deo” by Hans Leo Hassler, performed by the KU Chamber Choir
— A design perspective from the Department of Design
— “Full English Breakfast” by Mike Mower, performed by the KU Saxophone Quartet I
— “Haricot Verts,” a percussion duet performed by the composers, undergraduates Shane Nickels and Josh Frans
— “Songs Without Words ‘Lost Illusions’ Opus 67, Number 2” by Felix Mendelssohn, performed by undergraduate piano student Nicholas Susi
— Patrick Suzeau, professor of dance, performs “Govinda Realm,” a contemporary East Indian dance
— The traditional finale performed by the Marching Jayhawks, with excerpts from the 2006 season
Tickets are $15 for the public and $10 for students and senior citizens. Tickets are available by calling the Lied Center box office, (785) 864-ARTS, or the Murphy Hall box office, (785) 864-3982.
After the concert, a fundraising reception will be in the Seymour Gallery of the Lied Center. Tickets for the reception are $75, which includes entry into the concert. Tickets for the reception are available by calling (785) 864-3421. Proceeds from the reception benefit the School of Fine Arts Student Opportunity Fund, which supports travel grants for students.
