Founder of Canada’s Doctors Without Borders to speak at KU
LAWRENCE — Dr. Richard Heinzl, founder of the Canadian branch of Doctors Without Borders, will speak at 7 p.m. Monday, April 23, in the Kansas Union at the University of Kansas. The program is titled “Lessons from Abroad: the Opportunities of a Borderless World.”
“We are very excited to bring such an accomplished and inspiring speaker to Lawrence,” said Carol Seager, director of Student Health Services at KU. “The entire KU community could learn so much from his experiences and knowledge.”
Doctors Without Borders is an independent international medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters or lack of health care in more than 70 countries.
Heinzl has received numerous awards and citations, including being named to Business magazine’s prestigious “Top 40 Under 40” list. He is currently the CEO of Toronto-based CardioView Inc., an information technology company in the field of cardiology. He is also the vice president of Vivid Health Solutions, which creates motion picture and new media solutions for the health sciences.
Heinzl’s presentations are a celebration of the ability people have to make a difference in this world and a how-to guide for organizations that want to become more global in their outlook. Filled with inspiring anecdotes of ordinary people doing extraordinary things, his speeches move audiences to a renewed optimism in the human capacity to create positive change in the midst of daunting challenges.
The lecture is free to the public, but tickets are required. They are available at the Student Union Activities box office in the Kansas Union and at Watkins Memorial Health Center. Heinzl’s visit is sponsored by the Ralph I. Canuteson Memorial Lectureship, in conjunction with Student Health Services as part of its centennial celebration.
Student Health Services is dedicated to supporting KU students’ learning experiences through high-quality, affordable health care services and programs that promote the health of students, the university and the community.
The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
