KU law school recognized for increasing diversity among students
LAWRENCE — The National Jurist magazine has ranked the University of Kansas School of Law second in rate of increase in student diversity. The list appeared in the March issue.
KU’s law school recorded a 201 percent increase in enrollment of minority students between 2000 and 2005, while minority enrollment has declined by at least 5 percent at more than half of the nation’s law schools.
Gail Agrawal, dean of the law school, said the ranking is a reflection of the school’s long-standing commitment to increasing diversity.
“The KU School of Law was founded on principles of inclusiveness — a commitment to diversity is in the very bricks and mortar of this place,” Agrawal said. “We continue to build on that foundation to improve the number and the percentage of students of color in our classes and the diversity of our faculty and staff. While much remains to be done before our reality fully matches our values and aspirations in this regard, we are proud of our accomplishments and grateful for the recognition of the National Jurist.”
The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
