Memorial Campanile to ring bells today to honor victims of Virginia Tech shooting

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas will ring the bells of the Memorial Campanile at 11 a.m. today as it joins the country in honoring the victims of the Virginia Tech shootings.

Virginia Gov. Timothy M. Kaine declared Friday, April 20, a day of mourning in his state and urged his fellow governors to do the same. Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius issued a statement that included the following:

“Tomorrow will be a day of mourning and remembrance, and I ask that bells across Kansas ring at 11 a.m. as a sign of national unity.”
