Princeton Review cites KU as being a best buy in education

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas has been named one of the country’s best education values by the Princeton Review. KU was selected for its outstanding academics, low to moderate tuition and fees and generous financial aid packages.

The Princeton Review’s “America’s Best Value Colleges” was released this week. In the publication, KU was cited along with 164 other schools as being a best value. KU ranked in the top 90 when compared to other public institutions. The Princeton Review ranked the schools based on data from more than 650 colleges collected during the 2005-06 academic year and surveys of students attending the schools.

According to the publication, students say “KU offers great programs in many areas. Plus, it’s among the most affordable in the Big 12. It has a full range of offerings, from great teachers and a beautiful campus to fantastic and fun sports fans and friendly people.”

Among the many factors that put KU on the list year after year is the university’s growing endowment. KU Endowment ranks 20th in size of endowment per student among public universities.

“KU students received more than $160 million in financial aid resources,” the publication states. “The endowment allows the school to supplement federal and state aid, making KU a perennial best buy.”
