Media advisory: Congressman to tour KU climate change research center
LAWRENCE — U.S. Rep. Dennis Moore, D-Kan., will visit the University of Kansas campus Tuesday, Aug. 28. Media are invited to attend his tour of the Center for Remote Sensing of Ice Sheets.
WHO: U.S. Rep. Dennis Moore, D-Kan.
WHAT: Moore will visit the Center for Remote Sensing of Ice Sheets to meet with KU researchers who are leading a National Science Foundation project to study the impact of climate change on ice sheets. KU is a leader in development of radar systems that are used to see from the top of a glacier to the bedrock it is riding over. This research aids in determining the speed in which ice sheets are shrinking and their movement. The KU team also utilizes aeronautical research starting from design and testing to flight of an unmanned aerial vehicle. The vehicle has flown in research missions through the harsh weather of Antarctica carrying KU radar equipment. Moore’s visit coincides with possible House of Representatives legislation on climate change this fall or early winter. Also in attendance will be Chancellor Robert Hemenway and Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Richard Lariviere.
WHERE: Mercury Room, Nichols Hall (west campus)
WHEN: 2-3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28
