KU announces dates of 2008 all-university special events

LAWRENCE — The all-university special events coinciding with home football games at the University of Kansas have been scheduled for fall 2008.

“Because of the magnitude of arrangements which must be made by our various departments and schools when planning their fall fundraising events, alumni social gatherings and academic programs, we always try to announce the all-university fall event dates a year in advance,” said Margey Frederick, director of special events and visitor services. “We are particularly sensitive to helping these university groups have as much lead time as possible in order to reserve hotel rooms and meeting space. Also, many campus units invite high school students to participate in various programs and they need as much advance notice as possible.”

Band Day and Family Weekend will be combined on Sept. 20, 2008. The KU football team will take on Sam Houston State at 6 p.m. that day in Memorial Stadium.

Scholar Recognition Day, when high-achieving students are recognized on the field, will occur Oct. 11, 2008. KU plays Big 12 opponent the University of Colorado that day. Game time will be announced later.

Homecoming Week will begin Oct. 19 and end Oct. 25, 2008, when KU faces off against Big 12 opponent Texas Tech. Game time will be announced later.

The annual meeting of the Chancellors Club, the university’s major-donor organization, will be Oct. 24 and 25 in conjunction with homecoming.
