Women’s basketball team to distribute holiday cheer at Lawrence hospital
LAWRENCE — For the 15th consecutive year, the University of Kansas women’s basketball team will brighten the holidays for patients at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Coaches and team members will visit the hospital at noon Tuesday, Dec. 11, and distribute items collected during the “Crimson and Blue Holiday Project.” Head Coach Bonnie Henrickson and her staff again will lead the team through the hospital.
During the visit, the team will give patients a variety of KU-licensed products, including t-shirts, playing cards, pennants and team posters.
KU’s Office of Trademark Licensing collects the items from officially licensed vendors, who donate the products for this event each year. This year the licensees donated more than 1,400 items with a retail value of approximately $11,000, according to Paul Vander Tuig, KU’s trademark licensing director.
“The project and particularly the visit to LMH is always a great day,” Vander Tuig said. “It is a chance to give something back to our community. Just to give the patients any kind of lift as they visit with coach and the team makes it all worthwhile.”
The trademark licensing program collects fees and royalties from manufacturers authorized to use KU’s trademarks commercially. Royalties distributed from the program are used to fund student and student-athlete scholarships at KU.
The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
