KU student-run radio station nominated for national music award
LAWRENCE — The student-run radio station at the University of Kansas, KJHK 90.7 FM, has been nominated for a PLUG Independent Music Award in the category of best college/non-commercial radio station.
KJHK is one of only three stations nominated that are entirely student-run. The PLUG Awards seek to recognize the growing community of independent music that is often overlooked by the mainstream music industry. Voting is open to the public and closes Friday, Feb. 2. The awards ceremony will be Saturday, Feb. 10, at Irving Plaza in New York City. For more information, visit the PLUG Awards Web site.
KJHK first broadcast in October 1975. The station provides volunteer and leadership opportunities for more than 150 KU students. KJHK is managed through the KU Memorial Union Corp. and has a nine-member advisory board consisting of individuals from the university and Lawrence communities. Broadcasts on KJHK include all styles of music, talk and news programming and aim to reach all students. For more information, visit the KJHK Web site.
The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
