KU alumnus appointed to United Nations post
LAWRENCE — University of Kansas graduate B. Lynn Pascoe has been appointed under-secretary-general for political affairs for the United Nations.
Pascoe has been a United States ambassador to Indonesia since November 2004. He graduated from KU in 1964 with bachelor’s degrees in Asian studies/language/cultures, international relations studies/social studies and mathematics.
In more than three decades, Pascoe has held many high-ranking diplomatic positions. From 1993 to 1996, he was director of the American Institute in Taiwan. He also was principal deputy assistant secretary in the East Asian and Pacific Bureau of the State Department, deputy chief of mission at the United States Embassy in Beijing, deputy executive secretary of the Department of States and special assistant to the deputy secretary of state.
Throughout his career, he has lived in Moscow, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Beijing, Taipei and Kuala Lumpur. He speaks Mandarin Chinese.
