Former U.S. Sen. Bob Dole to be honored in Washington, D.C.

LAWRENCE — The Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas will commemorate the leadership and distinguished career of the former senator from Kansas with an event Wednesday, Jan. 24 in Washington, D.C.

“Salute to the Leader” marks the 10-year anniversary of Dole’s retirement from the U.S. Senate to run for President as the Republican nominee. A reception will be held from 6-8 p.m. at Mellon Auditorium, 1301 Constitution Avenue NW.

“This is also a fundraiser for the institute and a special reunion for everyone who supported, served with or worked for Sen. Dole over the years,” said Bill Lacy, director of the Dole Institute. “Everyone who knows Sen. Dole knows that he is dedicated to public service and bi-partisanship and believes politics is an honorable profession. The institute carries on that legacy of civic participation and civil discourse by encouraging young people to become involved and by providing a forum wherein issues are discussed in the manner that Sen. Dole exemplified — with dignity and intelligence and without the rancor that typifies so much of our political dialogue these days.

“The respect that Sen. Dole enjoys in the political community, among both Republicans and Democrats, is shown by the number of nationally and internationally known individuals who have lectured at the institute which bears his name. These include former presidents, world leaders, many members of Congress who worked with him, governors and political practitioners of all persuasions.”

More information is available online at www.DoleSalute.com. The host committee can be contacted directly by writing to Hosts@DoleSalute.com or calling toll-free (800) 453-1427. Individuals who cannot attend but would like to contribute can do so through those contacts.

The Dole Institute of Politics is dedicated to the mission of promoting civic engagement, public service and politics. For more information regarding the institute, visit www.doleinstitute.org or call (785) 864-4900.
