Media advisory: KU announces gift for new scholarship hall

WHAT: A $4 million gift commitment that will fund construction of the 12th scholarship hall at the University of Kansas. The scholarship halls offer a unique living option for students with outstanding academic and leadership abilities.
WHO: Chancellor Robert Hemenway; Dale Seuferling, KU Endowment president; the donor for the project; and Cayla Witty, KU senior and All Scholarship Hall Council president.
WHEN: 10-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27.
WHERE: Dennis E. Rieger Scholarship Hall, 1323 Ohio St., Lawrence.
MEDIA ACCESS: Media representatives may park on Ohio Street.
BACKGROUND: KU is one of few universities nationwide to have a cooperative housing system on or near campus. Like all residence halls at KU, the scholarship halls receive no state support for operation. Scholarship hall residents pay about $1,600 less per year than students living in residence halls. In exchange, they agree to four to six hours of weekly household and cooking responsibilities.
