KU School of Pharmacy’s career day attracting national, local employers
LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas School of Pharmacy will conduct its annual Senior Pharmacy Student Career Placement Day and Undergraduate Pharmacy Student Career Information Fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, at the Lawrence Holiday Inn Holidome, 200 McDonald Drive.
Ninety-five doctor of pharmacy degree candidates who plan to graduate in May and about 120 undergraduate pharmacy students will participate.
More than 50 employer representatives have registered to attend. They will interview and recruit senior pharmacy students for positions following graduation and undergraduate pharmacy students for summer internships.
A unique employer registered for this year’s event is the Hoisington Chamber of Commerce. Chamber officials are seeking a pharmacist graduate to become owner of a pharmacy in Hoisington.
Other employers represent a broad scope of career pathways, including retail chain and independent pharmacy, hospital pharmacy practice, the public health service/Indian health services pharmacy, the pharmaceutical industry and nuclear pharmacy. Other opportunities are found in specialty pharmacy practice areas, such as long-term care pharmacy and compounding pharmacy, and post-graduate residency training in retail and hospital pharmacy practice and pharmacy practice management. Employers are recruiting for vacancies in Kansas and nationwide.
The annual career and summer internship placement activity is coordinated through the dean’s office of the KU School of Pharmacy. Associate Dean Gene Hotchkiss acts as the school’s career placement coordinator and is responsible for planning the event.
The School of Pharmacy also helps students in the job-search process create resumes and prepare for interviews.
The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
