KU chancellor offers condolences to family of Kyle Almeida

LAWRENCE— University of Kansas Chancellor Robert E. Hemenway made the following statement in response to the death this morning of Kyle Almeida, 23, a Warrensburg, Mo. senior majoring in architecture. Almeida died in a one-car accident in rural Douglas County east of Lawrence. Almeida was a 2002 graduate of Warrensburg High School.

"On behalf of the entire KU community, I want to express profound sorrow at the tragic death of Kyle Almeida. I offer our deepest sympathies to Kyle’s family and friends. He will be missed."

KU Architecture Chair Keith Diaz Moore added the following statement.

“Kyle transferred to our program from Baker University in 2004. He immediately exhibited a very imaginative spirit and a true enjoyment for life. His optimistic, easy-going style let Kyle play an important social role in his cohort, which makes this loss particularly devastating. Architectural education demands many hours spent in our small studio classes, and this leads to a lasting social, almost familial bond among students and faculty. For those of us that knew Kyle under those circumstances, our hope is that we shall learn from his sweet and gentle nature and his ever present smile. He will be sorely missed.”
