Chancellor offers condolences to family of student Cecile Hernandez
LAWRENCE — University of Kansas Chancellor Robert Hemenway offered the following statement in response to the death of Cecile Hernandez, 21, a junior in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Hernandez died Friday in an automobile accident near Olathe.
“This is a tragic loss for the KU community. Our thoughts are with Cecile's family and friends during this difficult time.”
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Olathe. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home, 105 E. Loula St. in Olathe.
Hernandez was a student employee at KU Recreation Services. Director Mary Chappell issued the following statement.
“Student employees are the lifeblood of KU Recreation Services. Learning of the loss of Cecile reminds each one of us how precious life is. Her energy, smile, enthusiasm, zest for life and free-spirited talents will be missed and celebrated.”
