University Women’s Club awards $9,000 in scholarships to six KU students

LAWRENCE — Six women students at the University of Kansas have received scholarships worth $1,500 each, for a total of $9,000 awarded for the 2007-08 academic year from the University Women’s Club.

Scholarship winners, who were chosen based meritorious academic achievement, will be honored at a luncheon Thursday, April 5, at the Malott Room in the Kansas Union. Rick Ginsberg, dean of the School of Education and professor of education administration, will address the honorees and their families, club members and guests.

Founded in 1900, the University Women’s Club has given about $82,000 in scholarships to KU women undergraduate and graduate students since 1915, making it the longest continuous scholarship-awarding unit at KU. Janis Hutchison is president of the organization. Members are current or former KU faculty and staff members or their spouses. Susie Lacy, president-elect, chairs the club’s scholarship committee.
