Election report from KU’s faculty governance
LAWRENCE — Ruthann Atchley, president of the KU Faculty Senate, announces the election of new faculty to the Faculty Senate, the Faculty Senate Executive Committee, and the two president-elect positions.
The Faculty Senate joins with representatives from the Student Senate, the Unclassified Senate, and the University Support Staff Senate, to comprise the University Senate. These governance bodies are responsible for the development and review of important policies within the university. This year, among other things, the Faculty Senate approved a comprehensive revision of promotion and tenure standards and procedures for the university.
Fourteen new members have been elected to the Faculty Senate. Serving three-year terms expiring in May of 2010 are: Ben Eggleston, Philosophy; Susanne Clement, Libraries; Jean Phillips, Law; Sara Rosen, Linguistics; Nancy Kinnersley, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science; John Staniunas, Theatre and Film; Mark Ezell, Social Welfare; Gitti Salami, History of Art; Karen Multon, Psychology & Research in Education; Doug Huffman, Curriculum & Teaching; Robert Corser, Architecture, and David Brackett, Design. Elected to one-year terms were Jonathan C.D. Clark, History, and Rodolfo Torres, Mathematics. The Faculty Senate Executive Committee (FacEx) provides leadership for the Faculty Senate, and joins with members of the other senates to form the University Senate Executive Committee. At the initial meeting of the newly formed Faculty Senate on May 3, it elected the following members to 1-year terms on FacEx: Richard Levy, Law; Nancy Kinnersley, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science; Jack Brown, Molecular Bioscience; Liz Kowalchuk, Design; Sara Rosen, Linguistics; and Prakash Shenoy, Business.
The incoming Faculty Senate President for 2007-08 is Richard Levy, and the president-elect is Nancy Kinnersley. The president of the University Senate is William Crowe, Libraries and the president-elect is Marianne Berry, Social Welfare. Both will be ex-officio members of the Faculty Executive Committee.
