KU business professor honored for lifetime of service to accounting association
LAWRENCE — Allen Ford, the Larry D. Horner/KPMG Distinguished Teaching Professor of Accounting at the University of Kansas, received the 2007 Outstanding Service Award for the Midwest Region of the American Accounting Association.
The award was presented to Ford at the AAA Midwest region’s annual meeting, which was held April 14 in St. Louis. The Outstanding Service Award is given in “recognition and appreciation of lifetime service to the Midwest region,” which consists of 11 states. The award is not given annually — only when individuals have made a significant impact on the organization.
“It has been an honor to serve the Midwest region for so many years,” Ford said. “Receiving this award is very special to me.”
Gail Hoover, associate professor of accounting at Rockhurst University, introduced Ford at the annual meeting.
“As I prepared to make this presentation of the award for service to Allen, I asked many people what they would say about Allen if they were to give him the award. One comment stood out as the most absolute truth. The person said, ‘I would say he is an evangelist for his students, and I mean that in the best sense,’ ” said Hoover in her introduction. “I understood perfectly what he meant because I am the product of an Allen Ford education, and I can say that I would not be standing here finishing my 10 years of service to the AAA Midwest region if it had not been for Allen Ford. He was my teacher and my adviser and because of him I pursued my doctorate and I chose to serve on the Midwest AAA steering committee.”
Hoover is the past president of the AAA Midwest region.
Ford was president of the region from 1998 to 1999 and was program chair and vice president-academic. He has completed two three-year terms on the region’s steering committee and frequently presents research papers at the region’s annual meetings.
Ford is the son of Frances Ford Montgomery and the late Ned Ford of Jefferson, Texas.
The American Accounting Association promotes worldwide excellence in accounting education, research and practice. The association is a voluntary organization of people interested in accounting education and research.
The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
