University Advising Center announces 2007 Peer Adviser Team

LAWRENCE — The University Advising Center, formerly known as the Freshman-Sophomore Advising Center, has announced the names of 20 University of Kansas students chosen as members of the 2007 Peer Adviser Team.

In this role, the peer advisers will work throughout the summer to assist new, transfer and readmitted students with their academic transitions to KU, particularly with the advising and enrollment process of orientation. One of the 20, Kori Green, Lawrence senior, is returning for a third year as a peer adviser. KU has had peer advisers since 1998.

Among their Peer Adviser Team duties, the students will assist faculty, staff, students, parents and guests with the advising process; act as a resource for incoming students; assist with placement testing during new student orientation; and help prepare materials and provide other help as needed for the success of orientation activities.

In addition to strong knowledge of their own and other academic areas and demonstrated leadership and communication skills, Peer Advisers have completed more than 70 hours of training to help prepare them to work with incoming students, parents and KU faculty and staff.
