University mourns KU student Blan Maurice ‘Maury’ Stout

LAWRENCE — University of Kansas Chancellor Robert Hemenway and Religious Studies Chairman Dan Stevenson released the following statements regarding the death Nov. 11 of KU doctoral student Blan Maurice “Maury” Stout. Stout received a master's degree in religious studies in May and was currently enrolled as a doctoral student in communications studies. He also was an active duty chaplain in the U.S. Army and lived in Leavenworth. Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Nov. 15, at Beldin-Larkin Funeral Home, 707 S. Sixth, Leavenworth. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, in the Main Post Chapel at Fort Leavenworth. Interment will take place at Leavenworth National Cemetery.

“On behalf of the entire University of Kansas community, I offer deepest condolences to the family of Maury Stout. Chaplain Stout had a distinguished military career as well as an impressive university experience. His intelligence and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he met.”

Religious Studies Chairman Dan Stevenson:
"During his tenure in our M.A. program Maury brought a wonderful sense of intellectual vitality and personal warmth to our department. He formed abiding friendships with many of our students, faculty and staff, and his presence will be sorely missed."
