Former KU dean to speak about higher education reform in Europe
LAWRENCE — Diana Carlin, former dean of the Graduate School and International Programs at the University of Kansas, will speak on “The Bologna Process: How Europe’s Higher Education Reform Will Affect KU” from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at 330 Strong Hall.
Carlin is chair of a year-long task force sponsored by NAFSA: Association of International Educators and dean-in-residence at the Council of Graduate Schools in Washington, D.C. The presentation is open to the public.
Forty-six countries in Europe are signatories to the Bologna Process, which is restructuring higher education in Europe as part of a larger European Union effort to gain a competitive edge and to better prepare students. Bologna presents challenges and opportunities to universities in the United States for admissions decisions, study abroad exchange agreements, joint and dual degree programs and research collaborations. Carlin’s presentation will center on decisions already made at KU regarding Bologna and what the next steps need to be to fully capitalize on the opportunities Bologna presents for exchanges, student recruitment and research collaborations.
International Programs and the Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Studies are co-sponsoring the presentation.
The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
