Campus Sustainability Day to highlight KU’s environmental achievements

LAWRENCE — Campus Sustainability Day events at the University of Kansas will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, in the Kansas Room of the Kansas Union. The day recognizes efforts to promote sustainability and to make KU more environmentally friendly.

Hosted by KU’s Center for Sustainability, events include presentations, an award ceremony and a discussion forum focusing on environmental, economic and social responsibility.

Members of the campus community and the public may attend individual sessions or participate in the entire event. Morning sessions will focus on campus operations, including waste reduction and recycling, energy conservation and dining services, as well as research addressing sustainability on a local, regional and global scale.

The afternoon program will feature the Sustainability Leadership Awards ceremony. Awards will be presented by Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Richard Lariviere to individuals at KU who exhibit outstanding leadership and creativity in addressing sustainability through education, research, service and innovation.

Afternoon activities also will include presentations on student projects addressing sustainability in the community. The day will conclude with a forum discussion, providing students, faculty and staff an opportunity to discuss the social and environmental challenges KU faces.
