LAWRENCE — Award-winning Victorian literature scholar Linda Hughes, the Addie Levy Professor of Literature at Texas Christian University, will deliver the annual American and British Lecture at the University of Kansas.

Hughes will speak on “Visible Sound and Auditory Scenes: Word, Image, Music in Tennyson, D. G. Rossetti and William Morris,” at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at Alderson Auditorium in the Kansas Union. The lecture is presented by the Department of English and is free and open to the public.

Hughes is author of “Graham R.: Rosamund Marriott Watson, Woman of Letters,” which won the Robert Colby Scholarly Book Prize for a work making a significant contribution to the study of 19th century periodicals. She is co-author with Michael Lund of “The Victorian Serial” and “Victorian Publishing and Mrs. Gaskell’s Work.”

Most recently she has edited Gaskell’s “Novellas and Shorter Fiction: Cousin Phillis and other Tales from All the Year Round and the Cornhill Magazine 1859-64” and co-edited “E.M. Forster’s BBC Talks, 1929-1960.” She is completing a book on Victorian poetry in the context of print culture.
