Media advisory: Chair of FDIC to hold news conference before giving lecture at KU

LAWRENCE — Sheila Bair, chair of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, will present the University of Kansas School of Business’ fall 2007 Anderson Chandler Lecture at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at the Lied Center. Earlier in the day, she will also meet with local bankers and business students and hold a news conference with area media.

WHO: Bair is a native of Independence, Kan., and earned a bachelor’s in philosophy in 1975 and a law degree in 1978, both from KU. Bair was sworn in as chair of the FDIC in June 2006, having previously served on the organization’s Advisory Committee on Banking Policy. During that time, she also was on the faculty of the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Bair also has been assistant secretary for financial institutions at the U.S. Department of the Treasury; senior vice president for government relations of the New York Stock Exchange; and counsel to Sen. Robert Dole, R-Kan. In late 2006, Bair was named to SmartMoney magazine’s “Power 30” list of the 30 most influential people in investing.
