KU Youth Chorus seeks members

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas Youth Chorus is seeking new members for the 2007-08 school year.

KUYC is a group of non-auditioned children grades four through eight who want to learn a variety of music, hone their singing skills and perform in front of a live audience.

The founder and director is Debra Hedden, associate professor of music education and music therapy. Hedden created the group in 2005 to offer singing opportunities for interested children and to provide KU undergraduate and graduate music education students the chance to enhance their conducting and rehearsal skills.

Any interested child may become a member of the group; there are no auditions required. The members of the chorus will be expected to attend regular weekly rehearsals throughout the year and participate in a spring concert May 8.

To register, the child and a parent or parent representative (guardian, grandparent, close friend) will attend the kick-off meeting Oct. 18 in 328 Murphy Hall. The membership cost is $45 for the KUYC calendar year. Rehearsals will be held from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. in 328 Murphy on the following dates:
