Media advisory: Danforth Chapel’s rededication ceremony set for Saturday
Danforth Chapel
LAWRENCE — Once again, the strains of Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March” will ring through Danforth Chapel at the University of Kansas.
After a summer of being closed for expansion and restoration, the chapel — a beloved campus building and the site of more than 5,000 weddings — has reopened, bigger and better than ever.
The gothic revival chapel, built in 1946, has been meticulously restored and expanded to include a bride’s suite and to make it handicapped accessible. Funding was provided through private gifts to KU Endowment. Among the many improvements are new flooring, walls, air conditioning, fixtures and restrooms. All the woodwork was restored, and extensive landscaping was made possible by the Class of 2006. In addition, with help from the Class of 2007, the organ has been renovated.
WHAT: Rededication of Danforth Chapel
WHEN: The official rededication and donor recognition ceremony, by invitation only because of occupancy limitations, will be from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22. Media are welcome to attend. The public is invited to an open house from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
WHERE: Danforth Chapel, on Jayhawk Boulevard between Spooner and Fraser halls on the Lawrence campus.
The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
