KU announces newly elected freshmen senators

LAWRENCE — Five University of Kansas freshmen have been elected by their classmates to serve as Student Senate members for 2007-08. They join about 80 previously elected student leaders representing each of KU’s schools and campus living groups and various organizations.

KU has conducted fall-semester elections since 2003 to fill senate positions to represent the incoming freshman class. All other Student Senate elections are held in mid-April for the next academic year.

This year, 26 freshmen campaigned for the five senator positions. The election was held Sept. 4 and 5. Adam McGonigle, a sophomore from Wichita and Student Senate Executive Committee chairman in charge of freshman elections, said about 1,360 ballots were cast, representing about 9 percent of the freshman class.

The five freshmen senators elected in the order of most votes:

— Katherine “Katy” Clagett, Colorado Springs, Colo.
