Dole Institute to host Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper columnist
LAWRENCE — The Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas will host two programs featuring Connie Schultz, the Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper columnist for the Plain Dealer in Cleveland, Ohio. Both events take place Wednesday, Sept. 12.
“Ms. Schultz’s visit gives us a chance to look at electoral politics from the all-important angle of the ‘candidate’s partner,’ ” said Jonathan Earle, interim director of the Dole Institute.
Dole fellow Jennifer Schmidt will host Schultz at the weekly Women in Politics: Career Stories study group at 4 p.m. Schultz will discuss her latest book, “… And His Lovely Wife,” which chronicles her life on the campaign trail as wife to U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio. The study group meets every Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Schultz will also speak that evening as the Dole Institute’s “… And His Lovely Wife: Stories from the Campaign Trail.” The public is invited to ask questions as Schultz shares her opinions on everything from ordinary women to extraordinary campaigns and discusses her career as a newspaper columnist. The program begins at 7:30 p.m. A book signing will follow.
