KU Air Force ROTC celebrating first alumni weekend April 11-12
LAWRENCE — Members of the University of Kansas Air Force ROTC have planned the first Flying Jayhawk Wing Alumni Weekend this Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12.
Cadet 1st Lt. Matthew Benjamin Booth, public relations officer for the unit and a senior in electrical engineering, said the KU detachment plans to make the event an annual affair, inviting all KU Air Force ROTC alumni to return to campus.
Lt. Col. Sandra S. Leiker, adjunct professor of military science, will welcome the returning alumni and their families. A barbecue will take place at 5 p.m. Friday at Broken Arrow Park at 29th and Louisiana streets with about 75 current cadets and alumni and their families. In the event of rain, the barbecue will be moved to the Military Science Building on the KU campus.
On Saturday, the alumni and cadets will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Eldridge Hotel for a formal dinner, traditionally called Dining-In.
Booth is the son of D. Kim Booth of Upton, Wyo. He is a graduate of Medicine Lodge (Kan.) High School.
Cadet Brittany Nicole Ramos, a junior majoring in history, is in charge of the program. Ramos is the daughter of Angeles and Jeanne Ramos of Overland Park. She is a graduate of Blue Valley North High School.
The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
